Dave Melillo![]() MYSPACE | Dave Melillo.COM Brittany: How would you describe the music to someone who hasnt heard it before? Dave Melillo: I think it is very much pop music...but not pop as in Micheal Jackson pop...Just catchy music that different people can listen. I also try to bring alot of my rock influences into the music, like Springsteen, Joel, The Eagles...and contemporary stuff like Dashboard and The Starting Line Brittany: If you could tour with any band who would that be? Dave Melillo:Hmmmm...I would love to tour with The Starting Line, or Weezer Brittany:speaking of tours your playing with hellogoodbye and cute is what we aim for soon right Dave Melillo:Yeah the tour starts late October Brittany:you must be excited about that Dave Melillo:Very much Brittany:Whats one state you are most excited to play in? Dave Melillo:New Jersey, the fans are amazing there, and its my home, so I love being there. I live down here in Florida, but honestly I spend more time in Jersey between touring and such Brittany: Is there any venues you would kill to play at that you havnt yet in the U.S? Dave Melillo:Well, I've been dying to play at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, that place has SO much history, and Ive been to shows there, I just never got to play it so that would be a big milestone for me Brittany: What is one song you have heard and wished you had written it? Dave Melillo:Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen, its such a perfect song for so many different reasons Brittany:What do you think about myspace and getting music out there? Dave Melillo:Its definitly a double edged sword. I cant talk bad about it, because I got noticed through purevolume, and myspace has helped me out SO much, but at the same time it definitly takes something away from music and makes it really cheap and hollow Brittany: If I was in a cd store and had your cd in one hand and another cd in my other what would you do or say to convince me to get yours? Dave Melillo:Its cheaper Brittany:Whats your favorite song to perform live? Dave Melillo:Sam's Song Brittany:tell us what that is about Dave Melillo:Well Every summer I go down to the Jersey shore, and that particular summer I happened to write most of the songs that went on the EP in the same room at my beach house. Sam's Song was the song that kind of narrated that whole summer...It was the first time I was away from my girlfriend of 4 years for a really long time...so it was hard. Brittany: so as you know I absolutely love your video for “Knights of the Island Counter” but what do you think of the video and was it fun to make becuase it looked like a blast? Dave Melillo:Its a really cool video because we were able to make something people liked on a really low budget. When I first heard the concept I wasnt sure how we could do it, it took 8 hours, and alot of rehearsal, but it turned into something that looked really good, so I was definitly happy with it,I took 2 months just to get that idea. Brittany:so you came up with that idea yourself? Dave Melillo: it was a combination of me, the director and Richard the president of DTR Brittany: Whats the best thing a fan has ever done for you? Dave Melillo:Fans let us stay at their house and eat their food all the time. I mean, so many times fans and their families have bailed us out. I cant really put my finger on one time though, it would be unfair Brittany:What was the best advice you ever got about your music? Dave Melillo:oh man....ummmm,let me go check. I think the best line I've ever heard is that "You need to find what you love and stay close to it" its such a simple thing, but its really hard to do and with music and life its really important to do that or you'll drive yourself crazy. Brittany:If you could change one thing about the music business what would that be? Dave Melillo:I really wish that we could get back down to what music really is. Now a days people dont see music as a big deal its all around them, there is SO much of it, so its not a big deal. Back when our parents were young, and even earlier, music used to save people you know? it used to REALLY mean something. You cant really describe it, but you can see the difference today, thats why classic songs have a soul that todays music doesnt Brittany:Do you have any last things you want to say to people reading this or website to check out? Dave Melillo:just stay safe and stay happy Brittany:simple but important, thank you so much Dave! Dave Melillo:no thank you!
