This Awkward Silence

MYSPACE

Brittany: Lets start off with you guys telling everyone who you are and what you do in the band.
TAS: Brandon: My name is-Brandon Marshall and I am the singer in the band.
Jeff: Name is Jeff Jones, I play guitar.

Brittany : When and how did you guys join the band?
TAS: Jeff: I started the idea with Matt Kruger, our drummer, in 2004. We got the band together with a couple of our buddies and then all that was left was to look for a singer and then my brother said there was some sweet black kid who wants to be in a band, sounded like a cool idea at the time...
Brandon: Yeah, then I tried out the first day with no PA and just sang out loud while they were playing. Everyone just thought it worked out so well.

Brittany: Who would you say are some of your personal influences?
TAS : Brandon: If you have seen me perform; you can see that I take note from Daryll from Glassjaw, some Adam Lazarra, Marvin Gaye, and the Temptations...my influences range from then to now.
Jeff: Well, on guitar my influences would be Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and John Petrucci...then when it comes to the music as a whole I am into a lot of Butch Walker, David Bowie, and Zeppelin as far as cool songwriting goes.

Brittany : I see you guys are planning a tour...how do you feel about the tour?
TAS: Brandon: We are pretty excited about the tour, and it all is coming together really good. I feel that this tour is going to help us reach that next plateau to get our music heard. People found us and now it is our turn to come to them.

Brittany: What's one city in particular you can't wait to play?
TAS: Jeff: I can't wait to play in Florida for two days because I know quite a few people...off of myspace...from there hah Oh, I am also looking forward to being in Nashville, I have always wanted to go there; it's cool because my first time being there to play music.
Brandon: For me it is Michigan, New York or Nashville. To me, that is where music started off and I want to go back and put my two cents in

Brittany: How do you guys feel about myspace, has it helped you with your fan base?
TAS: Brandon: Yes. for sure. Well, our old myspace had 70k plus friends then was hacked into; but that was how we have gotten so far to where we are today. Also, if we were not on myspace, we wouldn't be able to have this interview with you!
Jeff: I believe myspace is an amazing tool for a band. It is great for indie bands that are hard working that don't have a place in the industry yet as far as A&R and record labels go. A band can still be successful without label support.

Brittany : well see in my opnion there are SO SO SO many bands out there that dont have the support that they really deserve and there are some bands that have a ton and dont deserve it so thats why I do what I do to be honest
TAS : Jeff: I would agree, it is hard to get your music heard by the big guys in the business...a lot of it is about who you know and Yes, I see that too. I think it is mainly because a lot of the indie bands are taking control of their careers and trying to do it without the labels, so now the labels can see more of the people they need to sign.
Brandon: Also, it is more like everything can happen to every good person but life makes it so it doesn't really work that way. If every band that deserved it made it and vice versa, the music would get pretty boring. It also shows that if your band is pretty deserving and you haven't made it then you might be doing something wrong. Only the strong can survive.

Brittany : Do you guys have any hidden talents you would like to share?
TAS: Jeff : Uh oh, umm...I can drink so much and never pass out, that's kinda cool. Also, I am really good at taking pictures, but drinking beer more.
Brandon: Beer. Also, I am super athletic...I was all state in track and football in high school.
Jeff: I can make my thumb look like its broken too, I can bend it back real far, it's cool.

Brittany : Who are your top 4 current favorite bands?
TAS : Brandon: Glassjaw, Acceptance, our bros in My American Heart, and Anberlin.
Jeff: I am really into Cartel, The Academy Is..., Acceptance, and Boys Like Girls lately.

Brittany : Yeah I interviewed MAH and still stay in touch with Dustin alot, I'm planning on reviewing their cd when it gets out.
TAS : Brandon: We have played with them a ton including Warped Tour twice and they referred us to some people we are doing talks with right now.

Brittany : How did you guys come up with your name for your band and for the cd?
TAS : Brandon: We were thinking of band names when we first started and the list we came up with was quite terrible. Matt Kruger had the worst idea ever as a band name while we were standing in a circle in the kitchen. Then I said "Man, this is an awkward silence" We all looked around and said "woah! that's it!"
Jeff: The CD title is something you really have to think about. The past few years I have been asking big questions about almost everything in life. Things that are unanswerable at this point in my life. We decided to name the CD "Secrets of Dreaming for Answers" because it answers the question of who are we as people and how it is usually revealed in our subconscious either when other people are looking at you or when you view your dreams you have every night. Brandon: It answers the question of "who are we?" and this cd will tell you exactly who we are. We are people who love, we can hate; and we are so sure but unsure at the same time. Each song gives you these feelings on the cd.

Brittany : When everything is all said and done, what do you guys want to be remembered for as a band?
TAS: Jeff : I want to be remembered as a band that was brutally honest about everything they are doing. Not trying to fit in or belong, but just doing what they feel is right and what they love....following their heart.
Brandon: I want to be remembered as a band that started off doing all on their own and got themselves to the highest point that they can get on their own. Then took it to the next level with a label and did everything right. I just think that our DIY mentality will get us further than most bands dream about...also, cause I am black...it is rare you see a black singer in the current rock scene. I want to be that new mold.
TAS: Jeff: Thanks a ton! Things are starting to look really good, we are just going to keep on pushing along!
