Tanya: State your name(s) and what it is you contribute to the band The Evening News?
Matt Colp: Matt Colp, Guitar and hugs!

Tanya: Give us a brief history lesson on the band?
Matt Colp: Well the band was originally coined by Clark Beggs (front man) back in I believe 2004 (it's so bad I don't even know my own bands history eeek). The new formation came about almost two years ago when Devin Beggs (Bassist) and myself came into the picture. Our new drummer Phil contributes a ton to the band, and is meshing with us very contently.

Tanya: In 2006 you guys released an EP entitled Beauty Prevails, how did you choose on that particular name?
Matt Colp: Beauty Prevails was originally Clark 's insight. From my perspective, and I believe his definition of the phrase, it has to do with the natural beauties in life and how we sometimes take them for granted.

Tanya: What are some of your favorite songs from the EP and why?
Matt Colp: "A Walk Outside," hands down. Clark 's debut song, and the first song we worked on as a band, and thoroughly enjoy performing live! You can also order our songs off of ITunes, which is up on our Myspace page (myspace.com/theeveningnews).

Tanya: Do you have plans to release a full length anytime soon?
Matt Colp: The timing for that question is perfect, no joke! We actually just got back from Los Angeles , and managed to get a few recordings completed with a renound producer by the name of Mikal Blue. Our manager Jonah funded the expenditure, in which we are very grateful for.

Tanya: What is your favorite thing about playing a live show?
Matt Colp: The fans. Honestly, I think their looks and responses epitomize that same feeling you get after watching a speaker give a speech, and that certain power, freedom they exude makes one feel cool. Cool to be apart of a show. The fact that we provided them with a night free of pressures and school, and put them in an environment with their friends is the best feeling in the world.

Tanya: Has something a fan ever said to you made you realize that you have impacted their life?
Matt Colp: Well we have received gifts via postage, and I think that is awesome!

Tanya: What would you be doing if you were not a musician?
Matt Colp: Probably acting of some sort, I really enjoy comedy, so probably a comedic actor. Something that has to do with entertainment.

Tanya: How do you guys describe your music style?
Matt Colp: I believe Clark Beggs says it best "Pretty-Core." A mix of The Beatles meets Coldplay meets Rock & Roll.

Tanya: Where do you see the band in 10 years?
Matt Colp: Hopefully inside of the television, or on a few billboards. Honestly, it would be nice to see the band bringing smiles to everyone we perform for. Some people don't realize how much of an honor it is to enjoy what you do for a livelihood, and believe me at 19 years old, I don't think I would do anything else, or with anyone else.
