Silent Envy
Myspace | Silent Envy.com Tanya: State your name and tell us what talent it is you bring to Silent Envy? Dusty: Hola! I am Dusty Ray, and I sing, play guitar, and a mean harmonica. Dean: Hi! I'm Dean, I play bass, keyboards and provide the techno-vocals. Tanya: How did the band come together? Silent Envy: Well, we're actually less than a year old. The story goes like this: we We’re in different bands when we heard about this asteroid hurtling towards the earth. We decided to band together and save humanity... but there aren’t any girls in the band, so we can’t repopulate the earth, so we gave up. By the way, we made that up because the real story is super boring. Tanya: You guys were recently confirmed to play at warped tour, How excited are you? Is this your first warped tour you'll be playing? Silent Envy: We are super-stoked about doing this year's Warped Tour. This is the first Warped Tour for "Silent Envy" however band-members have done some dates with previous projects. There are so many bands and people all in one place it's such a great opportunity to make some connections and hopefully win over new fans! Plus you can work on your tan. Tanya: How much of an impact do you think sites such as myspace, and purevolume have had on your fan base? Silent Envy: Well, after deleting 5625 comments a day about the ipod phone, male enhancement pills (apparently you're fooling yourself if you think size doesn't matter?) and free Ringtone sites, we've received a lot of messages from excited new friends. Everyday we seem to get new fans that heard about us from other friends. These sites are critical to how we promote shows and get our music to fans. Without our myspace page, we probably would not have gotten this interview and you would never be reading these words--that's crazy! Tanya: The band just released an album in February, What is your favorite song off of the album, is there a story behind it? Dean: I’m very proud of every song. We arranged them on the CD to have a flow. The songs start in one place and by the end of the CD, it leaves you elsewhere. When it's stitched together, hopefully you feel like you've been somewhere. Dusty: I’d have to say that, “I Can Still Taste Regret On Your Lips” is my favorite song because in that song's succession (like Dean talked about), this is where, the main character decides to fuck everything and leave it all behind to make a life for himself. That's how I ended up in California from Pittsburgh . Tanya: Sex, Drugs, or Rock and Roll? Dean: I save that for my Motley Crue cover band. We're called Crue Cuts. (don't forget the umlauts) Dusty: You got change for a fifty? Tanya: What are some of your touring necessities? Dean: Lots of Axe body spray to cover up that awful smell created by the Axe body spray, sprayed on yesterday, to cover up that awful smell. Dusty: Dean's cell phone. Tanya: Do you have any hidden talents? Dean: Well, Dusty and I can take any music and in under 5.2 seconds, we can turn it into a depressing song about an old girlfriend. Dusty: I would say in under 3 seconds. Tanya: If you could describe the band using 5 words what would they be? Silent Envy: Dedicated, amiable, humble, insatiable and hard-working (wait is that 2 words?) Tanya: How does someone in the crowd stand out to you? Silent Envy: If they’re singing along to the VERSES of your songs, then you know they’re true fans! Tanya: What is one thing you wish you could change about the music industry? Silent Envy: A lot needs to change. All this fucked up shit is in perfect balance with all the other fucked up shit and if you tip the scales by doing something different, you'll just get shit on. Tanya: What song seems to get the most reaction out of the crowd when performing live? Silent Envy: “Last You’ll Hear From Me” because its snappy, like carrot sticks and ranch dressing. People seem to jump around and have a good time to it. That's what live music is all about. Tanya: If you had the chance to tour with any band who would it be? Silent Envy: We really enjoy touring and playing live with anyone as long as everyone works hard and takes it as seriously as we do. But we’d love to tour with that, "sex, drugs and rock and roll" thing you were talking about. Tanya: Are there any bands out there that you think we should know about? Silent Envy: The amazingly talented Blood on the Tracks (www.myspace.com/bloodonthetracks), This amazing kid named Ben Purdy (www.myspace.com/boy2stone), The Drama Montage (myspace.com/thedramamontage) and the L.A. boys who we are touring with in May, Scarlet Grey (www.myspace.com/scarletgrey). Tanya: After all is said and done, what do you want to be remembered for? Silent Envy: We were once told to, "occasionally wish for something you might Actually get." By doing this, you'll find yourself much happier, if Only Occasionally. We'd like to be remembered as a bunch of guys who weren't Afraid to wish... let's see if we get it? Tanya: Any final words... Silent Envy: We hope people will check out our website/my space (www.myspace.com/silentenvy or www.silentenvy.com) and give us a Listen. If you like what you hear, please tell your friends and pick up a copy. We will appreciate your support forever and if that asteroid actually does line-up with the earth, we will try our best to save you with our Bruce Willis-like tactics.
