![]() Showbread Myspace.com/showbread Brittany: To start off introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band. Josh: I'm Josh Dies, I sing, play guitar and remain the coolest member or Showbread. Brittany: For people who have yet to check you out, how would you describe the band's sound? Josh: I would simply say that every sound you've ever heard up until now has been a waste of your ear's time. Brittany: How and when did the band form? Josh: My brother Patrick (who plays bass in the band) started Showbread in 1997 as a worship group to play in our church. Church hated us because we were too loud, got into punk, listened to "The Shape Of Punk To Come" and bam! You're 11 years into the future and we're the greatest band in the world. Brittany: You guys have a great tour coming up, tell us about that. Josh: We're supporting Maylene and the Sons of Disaster with The Static Lullaby for a couple of months. I'm not sure who's idea it was to bring us along but whoever it was is very nice. We're excited. Earlier this summer we were touring with this extravagant production... TV's on stage, an awesome light show and all kinds of audio/visual stimuli to support the hefty concept of our new records. So we've went to great creative lengths to preserve that kind of showmanship with a limited time slot and not as much "stuff" on stage... I think what we have planned is pretty out there, very entertaining, and somewhat bizarre. Brittany: Any dates on this tour that you are most excited about? Josh: I'm excited about the tour in general. When I picture our set, I see this weird production soaked in chaos and I feel destructive. I'm worried for our equipment but not enough not to break stuff. Brittany: If you could put together a tour with bands you have always wanted to play with, who would be on it? Josh: Sullivan and Tyler Read start the show, then Showbread, Brave Saint Saturn, Flaming Lips, Nine Inch Nails, Creed, Disturbed, DC Talk and finally Stomp. Brittany: You guys have a CD that goes along with a story which is pretty creative, how did that idea come up? Josh: We had just finished a very stripped down, simple rock record and I knew we wanted to do something really complicated. I started praying for an idea and the concept of these two sisters living their lives in opposite directions captured musically as well as in a read along story came along. I am very happy about the finished product, it does exactly what it's meant to do. It's very dark and very emotional and the music syncs with the written word amazingly... the effect it has is not something that happens often in music. Brittany: What are some of your favorite songs to play live off of your new album? Josh: "The Death" from the Nervosa is awesome when all the elements come together correctly. It's a tricky record because some of the songs are so thick with emotion and the story that you can't just toss them in a set next to "mouth like a magazine". So it's hard to respect them in a mixed set. I think the presentation we were doing on the release tour was the best way to play those songs live, but we did it for two months and we feel like the presentation was finished. So now the challenge is bringing pieces of a very significant story out of their context and into a melting pot of all these other songs. It's tough. Brittany: What can we expect from you guys after this tour? Josh: We're writing another record. I think doing something SO deep and SO concept driven with so many layers and pieces put us in a place mentally, spiritually and with our members to just make a Raw Rock record. We have a DVD coming out later this year called "How Showbread Ruined My Life" that has been in the works for years. I have a new novel I'm working on that i'll be touring to support with my other book. Other than that, we just keep touring. Brittany: Any last words for your fans and everyone reading this? Josh: I don't trust any of you... You could all be Skrulls |
