Scenes And Sirens

Myspace

Tanya: First of all why don’t you introduce yourself and tell us a little about you and when you got involved with music?
Brian: Well my name is Brian Maddox and I helped start the band Scenes And Sirens with my friend Mark Rosas. I got involved with music about 4 years ago when I first picked up a guitar because I thought being able to play other peoples songs was just the coolest thing ever.

Tanya: In Scenes And Sirens, it is just you and Mark do you think that because it is just a two man band it brings on more struggles to be successful in the music industry?
Brian: No, I honestly feel that we have an advantage with it just being a two man band. Every one that scrolls through bands see's four, five maybe even six members in a band so when some one comes across us it shows that we are different and trying something new... I think the originality of us as a band comes across better when you just the two of us instead of a big group.

Tanya: Do you both write the songs and lyrics together?
Brian: Well how our song writing works is Mark will be at home and find something he thinks sounds good or I come up with something that I think sounds good and then we hangout and usually write together as far as the music goes... almost every song as far as lyrics Mark writes almost every song as far as lyrics Mark writes

Tanya: Are your songs based on real life experiences or are they fictional?
Brian: All of the songs we write are about real people and real emotions. However while writing we try and express our words in a way that everyone who listens can relate to.

Tanya: What song seems to get the best reaction out of a live audience?
Brian: I like this question... well our song "Jessica" is a very dancey song so we see people get really into that one, however it is always funny to see couples kissing when we play "When Less Is Just Wrong"

Tanya: You guys formed in 2006 and already seem to have a pretty large fan base how much of an impact do you think sites such as my space and pure volume have had on it?
Brian: My space and Pure volume are the only reason we have had any amount of success. We have had the chance to play with some of our favorite bands such as PlayRadioPlay, This Providence , Forever The Sickest Kids, and Rookie Of The Year all because of my space promotion. It is a great way to get your music out fast and be heard by a large number of people. It is also really cool when we have people come up to us and say "Hey I heard you guys on pure volume, your really good" because we feel that site is what started online promotion for bands and it kind of gets lost now with my space so it makes us happy to see people still use pure volume as a way to find out about bands.

Tanya: Out of all the bands Scenes And Sirens has gotten a chance to play with which one would you say has been the funniest to play with?
Brian: There is a band in California that has just signed with Columbia Records name Metro Station. They came down from California to play a show with us and that was a lot of fun. They are really cool guys.

Tanya: If you had the chance to be on tour with any four bands who would you pick and why?
Brian: 1) PlayRadioPlay 2) Metro Station 3) The Scene Aesthetic 4) The Format; Dan from PlayRadioPlay is such a nice guy and we love his music he is a real inspiration for us and is fun to hangout with. The guys in Metro Station are crazy and know how to have fun on stage it just seems like a tour with them would be an amazing time. We have played with Andrew from The Scene Aesthetic before in his other band Danger::Radio and have talked with him a little bit. But he is crazy and we love the sound that The Scene Aesthetic produces. The Format would be a band we would love to meet and play with... and we actually had an opportunity to fly up to Boston and play with them however we couldn’t make ends meet with the short notice of the show. But we look up to the music that they produce and they style they have.

Tanya: Are you guys still in high school?
Brian: Yes we are we are juniors.

Tanya: How do you find time to balance School, Jobs and making time for friends/girlfriends?
Brian: Well it does get a little stressful sometimes dealing with all of the above lol I do work a part time job, go to school, have a girlfriend, and love hanging out with my friends... it has been getting easier to manage everything. But it is still hard sometimes because I don’t really have much time to myself... I am always out doing something but its kind of fun to always be busy... i'm never usually bored... except when i’m in school.

Tanya: Do you have any future tour plans to support the EP?
Brian: Well we have had a few offers of tours to jump on this summer... but i’m not 100% sure if we will be touring. We were very happy to release the EP and see that people are actually buying it. But we feel when we come out with our full length that will be the CD to hype up and tour with.

Tanya: How did you decide on the title of the EP?
Brian: All the songs on the EP are about relationships and the emotional roller coater you go on. So when we sat down and listened to the EP all the way through we started spitting out ideas on how it made us feel as a whole and we felt the title "Lost Lust, But Living" was appropriate.

Tanya: How far along are you with the debut of the full length?
Brian: we have been writing and talking with producers and a few different labels... so it is hard to say... we think it would be really cool if we could release it on a label but are not going to rely on that. We will be in the studio off and on until about October 2007 and are thinking of releasing it around December 2007 but nothing is for sure.
Tanya: Alright that is all the questions I have for you! Thank you for taking the time and doing this before we end it do you have any final words?
Brian: Everyone pick up your copy of Lost Lust, But Living. Thank you.
