Raining & OK

Myspace

Tanya: So for the readers who may not be familiar with your band Raining & ok why don’t you tell us a little about the band how you joined and what you play?
Trevor: Well, it all "started" when I moved to Seattle for five months and I started writing what were to be our songs. It was then that I really started singing too, other than in my car haha
Eric: Yeah at first I was like Trevor singing? No way...
Trevor: I was pretty lonely in Seattle and nothing better to do than to write songs, and to sing and record them then I showed them to Eric...
Eric: Yeah we had played together before in a band called Thirte Fs so we have played together for a few years so it just felt right being together again. I was pretty blown away that Trevor had the good ole pipes on him...He moved back, we picked up our good friend Kyle Buchanan (guitar) and we started hacking away at it. And here we are, about to start tracking on Guitars, Bass and Vocals for our new album..:-) Oh, and we play rock and roll that melts your face...in a good way.

Tanya: Does the bands name have a story behind it?
Trevor: There is a pretty funny story behind it actually. My friend and roommate in Seattle came up with it once when we were bored. He was putting white out on the front of the book called "Training Handbook" and as he was whiting out the letters and came up with Raining & OK. Then we both agreed that would be a cool band name. So later I asked if I could use it.

Tanya: You guys are currently recording, what can we expect from the CD?
Eric: Musically, I think it is going to be very different from the other stuff that’s out there. We aren't super poppy but then again we are not killing you with metal riffs. The best way to describe it in my head is; we try to paint a different picture with every song. I really think each of our personal styles comes through and makes something unique that everyone can dig.....

Tanya: From the 2 songs you have up I can tell it’s not the same as every other band out there.
Trevor: Yeah. A lot of our influences are drawn from more 90's alternative rock such as Third Eye Blind, Silverchair, and Radiohead too
Tanya: TEB my favorite band ever
Eric: damn straight!
Eric: Stephen Jenkins is a golden god! He is so hot... if there was one guy ever...........he would be it.
Trevor: Anyways, the new album will be titled The Devil On Your Shoulder and it kind ways a theme throughout the whole record....The devil on our shoulder can be taken in a literal term as well as anything that is bringing us down or stopping us from who we really are and what we want to achieve

Tanya: How did you decide on the name of the record?
Eric: The name of the record just fit because all the songs fell into the same sort of lyrical vibe... So it was only natural...
Kyle: The last song on the record is also the title track; the devil on your shoulder, which I think is pretty cool; it really sums up the entire Cd

Tanya: What is your favorite track off of the record?
Kyle: My favorite track and I think I can speak for everyone, would have to be "The Devil On Your Shoulder" Like I said, it's the last song on the Cd...
Trevor: As of right now, I'm really taking a liking to the opening song on the record, "Break The Calm" because it has the most energy and is more fun and challenging for me to sing because of it's high range
Eric: Ohhhhhhh snap. Well for me, it is for sure You Keep In The Dark. It is a pretty rockin' song with a crazy bass line. I love it, a lot.
Kyle: it’s slow and pretty throughout the first half of the song, then transitions into a dancy upbeat, solid rest of the song

Tanya: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Kyle: Well, we all pray together
Eric: We usually end up listening to MuteMath along the line...And I text pretty much everyone in my phone book that is close to the show...
Kyle: Yes, mutemath is a pre-show must
Trevor: And I'll usually try to fit in a vocal warm up before we go on...maybe to Mute Math as well haha we love Mute Math

Tanya: What is the first thing that crosses your mind when walking on stage?
Trevor: "Hope I don't forget the words... that would suck" and "my guitar better work"
Kyle: "I hope all 26,000 of our instruments and tracks work"
Eric: For me, since I have pretty much double the gear of everyone else...Is everything hooked up right? I want to rock! Is my family here?
Kyle: I tell myself that I look good as well :]
Tanya: Haha well duh
Trevor: This is true. Kyle always gives himself a little boost.
Eric: Yeah he always says he looked "Really Good"
Trevor: And he always asks us to double check we just say "yeees Kyle" and make fun of his bad taste later.
Kyle: Haha, it's probably true, even though we all shop at the same 3 stores.
Tanya: Well he has to get ready for all that eye sex that’s going to be happening cant blame a guy.
Eric: True true, He's a player
Trevor: It's true.

Tanya: How does someone in the crowd stand out to you?
Eric: Usually for me it's someone I know... but if not... Just someone that is rockin' out. But sometimes it's hard with the lights... If I can tell you're diggin' it, you're my friend.
Kyle: I don't really pay attention to the crowd a whole lot, I kind of zone out, but most of the time I try to make eye contact with friends, or people that look like their into the songs
Trevor: For me, I will tend to make eye contact with people who seem to be really listening/watching our performance....but usually I just find out who likes our performance after the show because I’m pretty focused on performing

Tanya: What would be the perfect present from a fan?
Trevor: a nice pair of shoes. Or chipotle gift card will do.
Eric: Hugs, smiles, and support. And yeah, some chipotle.
Kyle: Money to help us get by! But really, just a hug, a good conversation. Starbucks gift card for me please.
Trevor: Mostly shoes though.
Eric: Yeah shoes.
Kyle: Nah shoes.
Eric: We all have a shoe fetish. I have aprox. 23 pairs.
Kyle: I have 3.
Eric: Well maybe not Kyle....
Trevor: I have about 5.
Trevor: That’s why I’m asking for shoes.

Tanya: Wow any particular kind of shoes or just random?
Kyle: Lace less converses in every color.
Trevor: Converse is my thing personally.
Eric: NIKE DUNKS! Premiums only please. Hahaha. Or some vans. I've really wanted some of those Tiger shoes though. The wrestling style ones. They are so last year though....

Tanya: Do you have any hidden talents?
Eric: I can crack my fingers by just closing my fist....and I can gleek reaaaallllly far. Both are pretty gross.
Kyle: Trevor can throw like a girl
Trevor: For some reason I can throw a football pretty far. Other than that I throw like a sissy boy and can't do anything else but play music haha. Kyle is right... I do have the talent to throw like a girl... I have studied it for years in Tibet .
Kyle: I can set up a moon bounce jumpy thing in less than 5 minutes

Tanya: What are some of your guilty pleasures?
Kyle: Panic at the disco.
Trevor: I like chocolate too much....too much.
Eric: Techno / Electronic music... Ashlee Simpson. I think that’s it.
Tanya: I’m not going to like I used to be a huge fan of panic before their MTV days and before they were the latest trend to listen to.
Trevor: Did I mention watching Conan O' Brien every night was one?
Eric: You should not feel guilty for that, he's good.
Trevor: yeah... it's a problem for me ...he makes me laugh myself to sleep.
Kyle: True story.
Trevor: I want to be like him.
Kyle: Again, true story.
Eric: The Sims 2.... For sure... I feel like such a nerd when I tell people I spent six hours playing it...

Tanya: So how do you feel about the bands that base their music career on looks rather than talent?
Trevor: Personally, I think there is a fine line that many bands often confuse. Sadly in the music business image is a huge part....But along with image, music comes first and bands need to base their image off their sound. Not the sound from the image.
Eric: I think they need to be real. Sure they may be making money but they have some square in a business suite telling them what to wear and what to do. But that is me being modest; I usually just mutter some words and walk away. And you can be real and look good at the same time.

Tanya: What was the first concert you ever went to?
Trevor: I believe it was Creed haha.
Kyle: Probably some little local YMCA show.
Eric: A local band here in Phoenix called Victims in Ecstasy. But the first real big concert, Glassjaw / American Nightmare / Open Hand at the OLD OLD Nita's Hideaway in Phoenix . It was amazing.

Tanya: How much of an impact do you think sites such as my space and purevolume has had on your fan base?
Kyle: a HUGE impact Since CD sales are slowly and sadly going down, online promotion & distribution is a huuuuge market to deal with which makes my space and pure volume perfect.
Eric: It's everything now-a-days.
Trevor: Yes, without the internet we would be unheard of anywhere else.

Tanya: Why don’t we do a quick little session of this or that before we end the interview!
Tanya: Rain or Sun?
Kyle: Sun for sure.
Eric: Rain!
Trevor: Sun. Seattle sucked.

Tanya: Black and White or Colored photos?
Eric: Colored.
Kyle: Black & White is just oh so classy.
Trevor: Black & White.

Tanya: Blondes or Brunettes?
Kyle: Brunettes, but both are acceptable.
Eric: Blondes for sure. But there is one brunette I can't seem to get rid of....
Trevor: Brunettes...or whoever wants to be my lady friend that I find is beautiful .

Tanya: Party Like a Rock Star or Party like its 1999?
Eric: Party like a rock star for sure...
Kyle: No partying haha.
Trevor: Party like it's 1999... because it could be the last party before the end of the world and Y2K!
Eric: Kyle parties like a ps2 guitar hero .
Tanya: Haha niceee Kyle.
Kyle: That is in fact true.
Eric: Isn't it 2007 Trev?
Trevor: Not in my mind.

Tanya: Holding Hands or Kissing?
Kyle: Definitely kissing.
Trevor: I think I would enjoy kissing. But I have yet to kiss or receive a kiss as of right now. Honest truth.
Kyle: That’s my boy.
Tanya: You've never kissed anyone?
Trevor: Nope
Eric: Oh man...Both are so good. Holding hands I think. I like feeling loved.

Tanya: Tackle or Touch?
Kyle: Touch haha.
Eric: Touch. I hate getting hurt.
Trevor: Touch.

Tanya: Ice tea or lemonade?
Eric: Lemonade.
Kyle: ICE TEA.

Tanya: Haunted House or Fun House?
Eric: Haunted House!!!
Kyle: Fun house.

Tanya: Famous or Almost Famous?
Eric: I would say, Happy. If that makes sense. But since I HAVE to choose. Famous.
Kyle: Famous.
Trevor: Famous for sure, maybe not Bono style famous. Too much weight to carry.

Tanya: Broken heart or Heart breaker?
Eric: Ugh broken hearts suck sooooooooo much. Can I please go no where near this one? haha. I guess heart breaker cusp then you're heart doesn't hurt as much....
Kyle: Heart breaker.
Eric: Both suck hard.
Trevor: I would chose heartbreaker.

Tanya: Late Nights or Early Mornings?
Eric: Late nights!
Kyle: Late nights by faaaaaaar
Trevor: Late nights.

Tanya: Wild night out or Romantic night in?
Kyle: Romantic night in.
Eric: Romantic Night in.
Trevor: A wild romantic night out.

Tanya: Any last words?
Trevor: Check out our new record The Devil On Your Shoulder when it comes out early summer and check out our good friends at The Daily Chorus.com
Eric: Listen to my friend Nick's band in New York ! Moving Mountains! They rock! Moving Moutains Music-Myspace
Trevor: And we'd love to see you at a show in the near future.
Kyle: Please talk to us! We love it.
