Myspace Tanya: Introduce yourself and what it is you play in the band? Ash: This is Ash and I am the singer of New Years Day. Tanya: How did the band all come together? Ash: Well, Adam and I went through a rough break up, not together, in our own separate relationships and we both ended up at Keith’s house one night, totally bummed. The three of us got to talking and decided to write music about it all, kind of pour our hearts out I guess. Tanya: How much of an impact do you think my space has had on your fan base? Ash: It IS our fan base. My space, hate it or love it, is such a HUGE tool for bands these days. Tanya: What is your favorite song to perform live? What one seems to get the most reaction out of the crowd? Ash: I really love performing who we are. It’s just the most fun to dance to really ;] Tanya: What is your favorite thing about touring? What’s your least favorite? Ash: My least favorite, as a girl, is obviously not getting to take a shower everyday, but the best part is traveling the country with my best friends, buying fireworks, getting into trouble, it’s the best part of my life. Tanya: What are the inspirations for your songs are they based on real events or are they fiction? Ash: They are all based on real events that have happened to either Adam or I. Tanya: Ash, what is it like being the only girl in the band? Ash: It’s so easy when you are around guys you consider to be your brothers. You lose girl time, and sometimes you forget how to act around girl’s altogether, but it’s worth it. Tanya: Do you have any pre-show rituals? Ash: I just like to sit down and be quiet and just chill out. Tanya: If you could describe the band in five words what would they be? Ash: jack hammer. Alpha male. Motivated. Warrior. That’s four. haha. 10 cool points if you know the TV show that line was from. Tanya: What is the best compliment anyone could ever give you about your music? Ash: I love getting the "I hate girl singers, but I really love new years day" to me, that says a lot. Tanya: Any last words? Ash: Stay in school.
