Mandy K.
Myspace Tanya: First of all thanks for taking the time out to do this Anthony, Why don’t you introduce yourself and tell us a little info about you? Anthony: My name is Anthony, I'm 16 and I play bass and sing in the band Mandy K. Tanya: Give us some background information on the band (when did it form, how did you all come together, where did the bands name come from) etc... Anthony: Well Mandy K. started in the poor, ghetto, streets of South Buffalo where me and Mike (Guitar/Vocals) Grew up. We've been playing together since we were 12 or 13. Our previous band was called Lexington but never went far because we couldn't keep a band together so me and Mike started to write with a keyboard and a guitar and came our new sound that you hear with Mandy K. Mike met Josh (Drums) through our original keyboard player Nate who is no longer a part of the band. Josh was like the perfect addition he has the same perverted sense of humor as me and Mike and he can play drums. The next came Kevin (Guitar) who Mike met when he switched schools. The band name comes from a girl Mike went to school with and grew up with. We all kind of picked on her growing up and we just decided to name our band after her and it stuck. It's kind of catchy you know? Tanya: You guys have already gotten to share the stage with bands such as Punchline, Waking Ashland Dave Melillo how did those opportunities come about? Anthony: Well in Buffalo there is a promotion group called Center Stage Concerts and they're really an amazing group of guys. Basically what you have to do is work really hard for them and then once they know your a hard working band they hook you up with some pretty amazing shows. The Punchline show was a dream come true for me and Mike because we grew up on those guys. Tanya: Have any of the bands you have played with given you any advice about the music industry? Anthony: Oh yeah. We hear it all of the time. There’s always different advice from every different band but always good intentions and advice from each. Tanya: what would you say has been the best advice anyone has given you so far? Anthony: I don't even know. That’s really tough. Probably just to keep at it. There’s is so many people out there looking for different shit you know? I mean someone has to be interested in what were doing. . Tanya: Do you write the lyrics? Anthony: Me and Mike both do. Tanya: Tell me what the inspiration was for the song "Count me out"? Anthony: I wrote that one. I will admit, I am a partier. I was at a party with one of my few ex girlfriends and I hadn't gotten the chance to get drunk with her yet this was going to be the first time. Well it turned out I really really didn't like her drunk at all, she was kind of all over everyone else and ignored me and that whole song is about that night. Tanya: What is your favorite song that you have written? Anthony: My favorite song that I've written is a song called Modern Day Ballad because it’s the first song that I ever wrote that really meant something to me. There is also a new song Mike and I just finished for our upcoming EP that is going to be the last track on it so look out for that because I think it really captures me and I'm hoping everyone else will love it as much as I do. Tanya: Tell me about the upcoming EP what can we expect from it? Anthony: Well the EP is entitled "The Birds and The Bees" and will be released on July 3rd, 2007. You can defiantly expect some more mature lyrics from me and Mike. We tend to write a lot about things were going through but now that we are getting older we're going though a lot more serious things and it defiantly shows. I mean you can tell by the title of the EP that your going to get blasted in the face with lyrics about Sex, Drinking, Break Ups, You name a common teen problem its quite possible there is a song about it on this EP. You can also expect a lot more catchy guitar and synth leads. Also Josh really improved his drumming and the drums on the songs that haven't been released really show a lot of progression so we're really excited to release it and just get the newer stuff out there. Tanya: What is your favorite thing about being in a band? Anthony: Playing shows to kids who are stoked to see us. I love playing to a crowd who is actually excited to be seeing my band and not the bands after me. I also love when kids in the crowd know the words to our songs. It gives me that choke in my throat. Tanya: What makes someone in the crowd stand out to you? Anthony: If they know the words that’s a huge one or if they're eye sexing me up. It's totally obvious. Tanya: Your still in high school, how do you find the time for the band, work and hanging out with friends? Anthony: Its tough it really is. Basically my days are jam packed and my nights are very late. Right now I'm booking a tour also which is quite the pain for a local Buffalo band but hey I'm getting there. I work normally for about 4 hours after school 2 days a week and all weekend and then I come home shower whatever and go out for a bit. The days I don’t have work I normally have band practice so I dunno, I get by. Nights are normally booking tour and Mandy k's my space which is fun so I'm not complaining. Tanya: Has anything a fan ever said to you made you realize you've impacted their life? Anthony: But yeah there was one fan in particular. Her name is Eleena. She’s been a huge supporter of not only Mandy K., but of me. I was in a ska band previously and she loved everything we did. I had an acoustic solo project, she loved it. Now she's into Mandy K. and I love her for it. She knows all of the words possible to know and she is just awesome. Tanya: If you could pick your dream tour what bands past and present would it consist of? Anthony: God... Let see... I would most defiantly pick Brand New they have been my favorite band forever but they would have to play a set of only songs from your favorite weapon because that would just fit with us so much better. I would also have Punchline, Andrew McMahon playing songs from SoCo and Jack's Mannequin and Say Anything. Tanya: What do you think separates Mandy K from every other band that is out there trying to make it right now? Anthony: I know for a fact we are willing to work super hard to make it as far as we want to go. I think we have a pretty fun stage show to see. I know that I try my hardest to put on a good show every time we play so I hope other people are enjoying it too. I hate seeing these bands that just stand there and don’t move and dance and get into it. It really just pisses me off like how could you not?! Tanya: What’s your opinion on bands that base their careers on their looks rather then talent? Anthony: Well being extremely attractive myself.... I'm kidding. I really think that is the most bullshit thing I have ever heard in my life. If you want to get big on your looks, be a fucking model. I don't agree with it at all. Now JT he is the man he can sing, dance, and he is extremely attractive. Tanya: Rain or sun? Anthony: Sun. Tanya: Tackle or Touch? Anthony: Tackle, I'm tough as nails baby. Tanya: black and white or colored pictures? Anthony: Colored. Tanya: Blondes or Brunettes? Anthony: Brunettes though I do love me an occasional red head. Tanya: Party like a rock star or party like its 1999? Anthony: Best Question Ever. Like its 1999. Have you seen prince? He's been partying like its 1999 for what 8 years now? The guy is still the fuckin man. Tanya: Holding hands or kissing? Anthony: Kissing. Tanya: Winks or High Fives? Anthony: Winks. I'm a flirt Tanya: Chocolate or Vanilla? Anthony: Vanilla. Tanya: Romantic night in or Wild night out? Anthony: Wild night out. Like I said, I'm a partier. Tanya: Talking or Laughing? Anthony: Laughing, who doesn’t like a good laugh? Tanya: losing track of the time or always being on time? Anthony: always being on time. I live with a bunch of people who are never on time. Tanya: New York or Boston ? Anthony: New York City ? Anthony: Boston . Too much drama in NYC for me. Tanya: Fun houses or Haunted houses? Anthony: Fun Houses. I don't really like to be scared... Tanya: Any final words for your fans out there? Anthony: I love you. :-) Oh and come see us on tour!!!! Our dates are on our my space.
