Last Call For Camden

MYSPACE
Tanya: why don't you introduce yourself and what it is that you do in the band?
Jess: my name is Jess, and I’m a senior at chaparral high school in Arizona. I play the drums in the band and I have been playing for about 6 years now.
Stephen: I’m Stephen, I’m 18 I play bass in the band, I listen and play music constantly, I’ve been playing for about 4 years.

Sammie: What's your favorite part about being in a band?
Jess: I love everything about it. I really just love being with the guys and writing and playing music. Whenever we're all together it’s just always a good time and we have all become like a family. I love it.
Stephen: playing shows and recording. I love playing live, its just an amazing feeling the energy you feel from the crowd, I love recording too, seeing a song come together from nothing into a finished product is always exciting.

Tanya: Jess, what is it like being the only girl in the band?
Jess: Ha. Well it’s really interesting. It used to be really awkward, and I was somewhat uncomfortable with being around guys who are so open with each other all the time, which can be disgusting lol but now I’m so used to it, it feels normal being a girl in a band with all guys.

Sammie: How did you all come to meet?
Jess: we have actually all known each other since 5th grade, and john was in 3rd. but we all played soccer for the same club and middle school team so we have been good friends for a while
Stephen: I've been friends with jf since the second grade, playground buddies I guess, and I've known my brother my whole life obviously, we all became good friends in middle school, through soccer haha were all retired balers.

Tanya: How do you remember your fans; which ones stand out to you?
JF: well we have a few that go to literally every show.
Stephen: the kids we see over and over again. A lot of our fans have even become friends over time.
Jess: I definitely always remember the fans who sing along to our songs or who come hang with us after the shows. Some of our fans have been to every show and I love them for that. Definitely kids who take the time to come talk with us.

Sammie: What's the farthest you’re planning to tour this year?
Stephen: idk about the rest of the band but I play on hitting Australia a few times this year.

Tanya: Ideally if you were the headliners who would you want as your opening bands?
Jess: wow. I would want probably Addie, the Maine, or the starting line. Of course we probably should be the ones opening from them, but I absolutely love all the guys in addle and the Maine. They’re legit guys. JF: For me probably this providence, the Maine.
Stephen: wow I haven’t even thought about us headlining a tour yet but um I’d like to go out with our friends in the Maine, I love those guys, and the starting line because I’m a huge fan.
JF: I would want to go on tour with fall out boy back when they did the smaller tours.
Stephen: Ya those shows were always so fun the crowds were so energetic, that’d be my ideal tour 3 years ago.

Tanya: If you guys and girl could add another member dead or alive to the band who would it be?
Stephen: Freddy mercury from queen haha, and everyone in RUN DMC.
Jess: wow.. I don’t really know anyone dead, but I would have to say the singer of dashboard. I’m a loser and can’t remember his name, yet I call myself a huge fan. I absolutely love that man and his music.
Stephen: Chris carabba

Sammie: What’s your favorite song to perform?
JF: I like curtain call
Stephen: Empty maps, just because it’s my favorite song of ours, and I think this new one we've been writing is going to be pretty fun to play too.
Jess: Ya I would say curtain call because most people know it and move to it really well.
JF: It gets the best reactions from the crowd.

Tanya: How do you guys handle being in school and being in the band?
Stephen: It’s hard, I think some of the time I focus more attention to the band then school...actually most of the time haha.
JF: Well I basically tell my teachers that if they want me to dedicate a song to them I will but they have to give me A's on all the tests.
Jess: It’s definitely not easy, but it’s not too bad. Being a senior I get out at lunch anyways, so that leaves a lot of time for band. But I would so rather be playing music than be at school. But at least I get better grades than Stephen.

Tanya: What was the first concert you ever attended?
Jess: My first concert was Boston. Hah old school, but it was great. Gotta love those oldies.
Stephen: blink 182 and no doubt, the last tour blink ever did.
JF: Rx bandits, less than Jake and something corporate I believe.

Sammie: What do you do besides school and playing music?
Stephen: I work at Starbucks and um jf and I are pro bowlers.
Jess: I played competitive soccer for about 7 years and right now I take pictures for the yearbook and newspaper at my school. I suck though.
JF: I work at a hotel, its pretty sweet.

Sammie : Who were you favorite people to listen to when you were younger?
JF: THIRD EYE BLIND.
Stephen: When I was way younger I was really into third eye blind, goo goo dolls, and the that thing you do soundtrack.
JF : and N'sync
Jess: wow. I'm not even gonna lie. celine dion haha I love that woman.
JF: ya that thing you do
Stephen: That movie actually made me want to make a band.
JF: I also listened to smashing pumpkins way back in the day.
Stephen: ya and me and jf used to jam out to the good burger soundtrack a lot haha

Sammie: How'd you come up with the band name?
Stephen: I’m going to be honest here. It means nothing.
JF: We need to tell the elaborate story of the magical forest and how I saved Stephen and jess from the fire breathing dragon and the garden knomes.
Sammie: sounds thrilling.
Stephen: And right before he killed the dragon, he dramatically yelled, this is the LAST CALL FOR CAMDEN (the dragons name) and then he slayed him.
Sammie: Oh right!
JF: It's true every last word. I still keep the sword on my wall.

Sammie: What's your biggest fear?
JF: Becoming a country star.
Stephen: Snakes...and even bigger than that. Snakes on a plane.
JF: Actually I really am terrified of water I can’t see through like in lakes and oceans.
Jess: Um my biggest fear is not being able to play music. Oh and spiders, I hate those stupid things.

Sammie: What are your biggest influences?
Stephen: I really love everything the starting line has ever done, lyrically and musically. I’m also a huge bright eyes fan, conor oberst hands down writes the best lyrics of anyone ever.
Jess: I would say the starting line, dashboard, and I love Copeland as well.

Tanya: What are some of your guilty pleasures?
Jf: Justin Timberlake
Jess: hmm, I’m gonna have to say n'sync, backstreet boys, and bbmak. Gotta love the boy bands. Stephen: Vanessa Carlton and Hilary duff. No I’m not gay.

Tanya: Do you have any hidden talents?
Jf: I play a mean smash bro's battle
Jess: I've been told I give extraordinary massages :) so if the band thing doesn't work out, I’ve got my back up plan.
Stephen: I have an excellent fade away jump shot and I can cook.

Tanya: What is one talent you wish you had?
Jf: I wish I could dance like I wasn’t white.
Jess: I wish I could sing or play the guitar. I pretty much got forced into playing drums when I wanted to learn guitar. I guess it worked out though.
Stephen: I wish I was good at math, would have saved me a lot of money and time in summer school haha.

Tanya: How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Jf: spring break, me, left, q, nimble
Jess: crazy, fun, stubborn, humble, blunt
Stephen: consistent, passionate, happy, genuine, loving.

Tanya: What is one thing you wish you could change about the music industry?
Jf: I'd want to make it easier for smaller bands to get noticed.
Jess: I wish that it would be easier for local bands to get recognized. I’m not discrediting any bands that are famous in any way, but there are so many local bands with the talent to make it that just aren't lucky enough to get recognized to become big. It’s unfortunate.
Stephen: I'd want to make it easier for good bands to get the recognition they deserve.

Tanya: sex, drugs, or rock and roll?
Jf: yes please.
Jess: definitely... rock and roll
Stephen: rock and roll!!

Tanya: What is your dream venue to sell out?
Jf: First Avenue in Minneapolis Minnesota
Jess: Madison square garden. Obviously just a dream though.
Stephen: the marquee theatre here in AZ. Every national act that I have ever loved has come through that venue, so to be able to sell it out would be somewhat of a dream come true.

Tanya: Where do you see the band in five, ten years?
Jf: sleeping together...in a van.
Jess: I hope to see us still together and making music. Hopefully we will be touring around the US. Otherwise I will be at the wedding of jf trotter and Patrick kirch!
Stephen: Hopefully touring and making more great music.

Tanya: After everything is all said and done, what do you want to be remembered for?
Jf: our lovely cheek bones.
Jess: honestly I would just want us to be remembered for the band that made music that was enjoyable and the band that was the most fun to hang out with.
Stephen: I want to be remembered as a band that was really cool to everyone and hopefully our songs live on to effect people in a positive way.

Tanya: any last words...
Jf: I love you!!!
Jess: anyone who comes out to our shows, please please please come and say hi! Seriously, we don't bite. I think people think that we will get annoyed with you for coming to talk with us, but we all really do appreciate when people come and take the time to talk to us. I love meeting new people!
Stephen: thanks for doing this interview with us!! Have a great day!
