Amber: Introduce yourself, and tell us what all you do.
Jared: I'm Jared Hensley. I'm a graphic designer, dealing mostly with clientele in the entertainment industry ( mostly music ) and I design everything from t shirts to CD artwork to websites.

Amber: Name some people you have done designs for?
Jared: Southcott, Race the Sun, The Scene Aesthetic, The Almost, Underoath, and I'm currently working on some stuff for Armor for Sleep and Boys Like Girls and Airdate.

Amber: How do you usually come up with the design?
Jared: Well usually Ill ask for input from the band. If they don't have any ideas Ill usually look at their current Merch and see what sort of styles they like. Sometimes Ill listen to their music and just design whatever comes to my head. I usually start with a sketch or a photograph and then its all colored and finished in illustrator / photoshop.

Amber: Is designing what you want to do for the rest of your life, or you have other dreams too?
Jared: No designing is pretty much what I've chosen. Even when I was younger I was always drawing and such. Fast forward to college - I decided I wanted to major in architecture and I hated it. So I changed my major to graphic design and started designing for bands on the side and that's what I've been doing ever since.

Amber: Would you be able to just design for one band if they were willing to pay, or would you just want to continue to design for many different ones?
Jared: Well as designing is my job I don't really have the option to work for free and I treat all of my clients the same. Its only fair. I guess I'd rather just design period, whether it was for one band or a hundred. Well I guess I'd rather design for lots of bands because they all embrace different styles and its neat to get into things you've never had a chance to design before.

Amber: Do you remember the first design you ever did, who was it for?
Jared: The first design I ever did professionally was for Southcott. It was a shirt design and they even used another design for a button. They are no longer a band but they were great and I really appreciate them for taking a chance on me.

Amber: If you could pick any band to design for, which band would you pick?
Jared: That's a tough question. There are so many good bands out with so much talent. I really have no preference but it is flattering when a band approaches me about design work. It makes me feel good about my work and what I do.

Amber: What do you think makes your designs stand out from others?
Jared: I'm not really sure. I always pay attention to very small details and I tend to design in different styles to keep everything from looking the same, or at least trying to. Every designer sort of is defined by a certain style or characteristics of their work.

Amber: Do you have a favorite design that you have made which one?
Jared: Oh its tough. In my portfolio I really like the Armor for Sleep ravenbot and crest designs. I also love the Tell Me Tell You and Aston robot designs.

Amber: Do you have any hidden talents?
Jared: Ummm haha. Not that I know but if I find any I'll let you know.

Amber: Is there a quote you live by?
Jared: Hmm not really a quote. But I will say that you must live life to the fullest without worrying about everything. It does no good. And I also believe that if you put in the effort you will be rewarded for hard work.

Amber: What is the biggest misconception about you?
Jared: I think people believe that designing is an easy job. Trust me you rarely get things right on the first try. There's always editing that goes on and many hours of sitting with no ideas at all in front of a computer screen.

Amber: Where can everyone see your artwork at?
Jared: Freewebs.com/jaredhensley.
Jared: There's all sorts of different styles and such.
Jared: For now its just apparel designs but ill be adding CD artwork and websites soon enough.

Amber: Any last Words?
Jared: I know this sounds clich but your mind is the only limitation you have. If you think you'll fail, you will. But if you think you will succeed, you will. When I first started designing, nobody took me seriously and they told me I wasn't good enough or my designs weren't that great. Thanks to everybody sticking by me and help spread the word. I can't thank you enough.
