Gone Baby Gone
Myspace | GONE BABY GONE.NET Rachel: Tell me a little bit about the band and how you got started? Brendan: Well, I was living in long island....and a friend of mine convinced me to move up to Boston to start a band. That friend was actually Dicky Barrett from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. He knew I wanted to start a group up and thought Boston would be a good fit. I guess he was right. So I came up here and found the right guys, and here we are! Rachel: How would you describe your music to new listeners? Brendan: In my opinion, the music that we play is fun and extremely energetic, but there is always an underlying message in the lyrics. It's sort of similar to how a mother will crush up medicine and hide it in applesauce so the kids don't know that they're taking it. Rachel: Tell me about the new Cd and what are your favorite songs on it? Brendan: Hmm...That’s a tough one. I really like all of the songs on the new EP. We put a lot of thought into this one. But the title track Hangups & Phobias is probably the most meaningful to me because it's about a very close friend of mine. He was going through a really tough time and contemplating some terrible things....so I wrote the song for him. Rachel: You guys do a lot of touring, you’ve actually been to my hometown a bunch of times (Nashua, NH), what are your favorite and least favorite things about touring? Brendan: Let's see....alright....favorite things: getting to play for new people often, making friends wherever we go, and also just having the band together all in one place....it's an important bonding experience. Least favorite: driving....vans breaking down, tire blowouts, etc.... Rachel: If you could tour with any two artists who would they be and why? Brenda: Wow....I only get to pick two?? I guess one would be NOFX...because it's my favorite band of all time but I think they'd probably kick our asses every single night of the tour....it would be a humbling experience for sure. I'll have to get back to you about the other one...haha! Rachel: Have you had any crazy experiences on the road? Brendan: YES. Rachel: What do you feel about myspace and getting your music out to people? Brendan: I think it has been instrumental for us especially in getting the word out to people about our band. But one drawback is that it has created an environment where every person in the world thinks that they have a band just because they put up a myspace page!! The market is getting oversaturated and under talented...there's a lot more to being in a band than just having a website and a shitty demo. Rachel: Where do you see yourselves in ten years? Brendan: I'd like to be writing songs for other artists. Being the man behind the scenes would be cool. Rachel: When everything is all said and done what do you want your band to be remembered for? Brendan: Good songs....great show....I want everyone that ever comes to a show to walk away saying that they had a great fucking night. I want them to feel like they got their money's worth for the show. But just being remembered at all would be pretty cool. Rachel: Any last words? Brendan: Thanks for asking interesting questions...most of these things are pretty lame...but I liked this particular interview....perhaps you have a future in this journalism thing...haha!!
