Counterpoint

MYSPACE

Brittany: Keith: why don't you tell us how you joined Counterpoint and give us some background stuff on the band!

Keith:: Counterpoint first started as a cover band called "The Sellouts" when one of my friends started learning guitar back in 8th grade. I had a bass guitar laying around my house so we started playing together. At the same time my younger brother was learning drums and so we brought him into our lineup. 4 years later, after 3 lineup changes and 2 band name changes, Counterpoint became the group it is today.

Brittany: For people who havn't heard the music yet, can you attempt to describe its amazingness for us?

Keith: After years of trying to define our music we learned it is impossible! Everyone has their own interpretations of sounds and genres and we try to stay clear of all that and just let our music speak for itself. But since that's not a real answer, I'll just say Pop Rock.

Brittany: Who are some of your biggest influences?

Keith: The Beatles of course, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, Sting and the Police, Blink 182 and my friends' band Bottom Line to name a few. I'm influenced by any band that makes me nod my head.

Brittany: If you could tour with any 3 bands out there who would that be?

Keith: Blink 182, Sugarcult and Something Corporate

Brittany: Are there any dream venues you have?

Keith: After I saw the dvd: The Red Hot Chili Peppers Live at Slane Castle....I was blown away. So if I could play anywhere I think that'd be it.

Brittany: What are some things that you carry with you at all times when your on tour?

Keith: I always have my ipod of course, a change of clothes, whatever book I'm reading at the time, deoderent for when I get off stage and my video camera

Brittany: Do you have any fan experiences that stick out to you?

Keith: We have some amazing fans but one thing that definitely sticks out was on the last date of our last tour a girl showed up with 2 pizzas, a loaf of bread and peanut butter and jelly and a huge cookie cake that said Welcome Back Counterpoint. It's cool when people go out there way to show you that they care.

Brittany: Do you guys have any pre-show rituals?

Keith: Yeah..... Before every show we all meet in a circle and each person says what's on their mind or what they're feeling pertaining to the show. Then we have a ritualistic chant that I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you. After that Todd (drummer) goes and warms up his arms while James, Joe and myself do a vocal warmup and stretch. Yeah.It helps us focus our energy into making that night the best show we can.

Brittany: Are there any songs out there that you have heard and wished that you had written them?

Keith: Millions....hahaha. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles), America (Simon and Garfunkle), Tiny Dancer (Elton John), In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins), God Gave Rock and To You (Kiss) to name a few

Brittany: If you could change anything about the music business what would that be?

Keith: Us getting signed hahaha! I think that the music business was great until mp3's took over. Now kids don't buy albums but instead download songs and because of that the entire industy has taken a hit. This means less bands get noticed and a lot of really talented acts end up breaking up before they were given a chance.

Brittany: When everything is all said and done what do you want the band to be remembered most for?

Keith: We want to be remembered for who we are. A group of kids that love music and who express ourselves in song. No matter who we are people will love us and hate us so we might as well be who we are.
