Brighten MYSPACE Brittany: Introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band. Justin: Vocals, Guitar. Jimmy: Drums Alex: Bass, Vocals Brittany: Give us some background on the band and how it all began. Justin: Alex moved across the street from Jimmy and I in the 6th grade and have been playing ever since, Jimmy and I are brothers. Brittany: How would you describe the band's sound? Justin: We think its more indie rock. Its hard to describe, maybe Jimmy Eat World/Copeland/Get Up Kids. Brittany: What is the meaning behind the name Brighten? Justin: It just came randomly one day. But we like the sound, we like the way it sounds hopeful and uplifting. We try to make our music something positive to listen to. Brittany: What is your favorite song off of the album King Vs. Queen? Justin: I think mine is Single Millionaires because I love playing it and I think the words are meaningful. Brittany: How do you feel about that album and its success so far? Justin: Thats a hard question. I think kids are responding well to the record. Hopefully we can get it out in stores soon and really see how people like it. It's hard to know from the week it was out in stores, how kids like it. But I think the general public will like the record, at least I hope so. Brittany: What song tends to be a fan favorite when you are playing live? Justin: Everybody seems to like Treasure Island the best. That is a fun song to play and its more upbeat and fun to watch live I think. Brittany: What is your take on Myspace, Purevolume and the power of the Internet in the music business lately? Justin: The Internet is amazing these days. Myspace and Purevolume seem like the only way at times to reach out to new fans. Some bands, including us, wouldn't be near where they are now without the Internet. so I love it. Brittany: Would you change anything about the industry if you had the chance? Justin: Yes and no, I would like for kids to be buying records these days but I am kind of excited to see where the music industry goes from here. And it would be nice if the whole industry was based around music instead of money. But that's just life. Brittany: If you put together your dream tour who would be on it? Justin:Definitely Coldplay, Feist, Eisley, Counting Crows, Journey, The Maine, and us. That would be a fun tour. Brittany: Do you have any dream venues or towns to play in? Justin: I would love to play the Hollywood Bowl. That place is amazing. And probably Radio City Music Hall. Brittany: What's something you have learned about being in a band and being a part of the music business? Justin: Well I have learned patience. And life isn't about always being the best. Just do what you do the best you can and have fun with it. Being out on the road and making friends and fans is what it's all about. If you work hard, the business will come to you. Brittany: Any last words to the readers and fans? Justin: Thank you so much for being interested and check out our myspace. Hope to see you all out at shows!! |
