Billy Libby
Myspace Tanya: Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself and your music? Billy: Well, I'm Billy Libby, from the lovely town of Portland , Maine but I've been in Seattle for awhile. Billy: Do you know even all out? Tanya: It doesn't sound familiar to me Billy: That was my band from Maine . I also was in a band with Chris from cambiata for awhile called why hello. Tanya: That’s awesome Billy: Yeaaaa, so that's my musical past In Seattle I've been playing with a band called The Real You, and I'm about to be relocating to really push my own music. So basically my music is songs I've been writing on my own since my last bands. I am working on an EP right now that I plan on releasing once I got a solid line up of people. Tanya: That’s awesome; do you have a title for the EP picked out yet or any ideas? Billy: No to be honest that's all up in the air. In the future I plan on even changing things from Billy Libby to a band name but Billy Libby works for now considering I'm all by my lonesome. Tanya: Why did you move from Maine all the way to Washington ? Billy: Well I was in college at the time and that was what brought me out here, plus I knew Seattle was awesome or I hoped it was, and it is. Tanya: What is the first song you ever wrote? Billy: Oh wow...it was back in 6th grade, and it might as well been an Oasis song. The guitar player of Even All Out and I started playing guitar by learning Oasis songs and speaking in a British accent. It's been strange writing songs for so long because it's almost like a musical photo album of my life since I was about 13 Tanya: Have you always known you wanted to be a musician? Billy: Since I was little yea. After my last band I kind of had identity crises and thought I wanted to be a zillion things. I wanted to be the next crocodile hunter also haha, BUT I realize music is what really makes me feel like myself. Tanya: Are your songs written from experience or are they fictional? Billy: Well a lot of my songs are sort of "self help" songs. I will just kind of throw my thoughts out there, hopefully in a provocative and creative way. Most of the time when I start writing it’s just words and after awhile they start making sense and then I try and keep going with the general theme Tanya: How long does the writing process usually take? Billy: Oh wow, well since it's just been me, it can take forever. I have songs from about 2 years ago that I haven't finished but sometimes I can pump one out in a day I am a very unstructured person. Tanya: Who have been some of your biggest musical influences? Billy: When I first got started as a kid I loved bands like Nirvana, Oasis, Our lady Peace and Third Eye Blind, The Beatles, Radiohead and Silverchair have also been huge, lately I've been loving bands like Eisley, Broken Social Scene, Blonde Redhead, Sufjan Stevens etc. Tanya: What was the first concert you attended? Billy: I saw Better Than Ezra at a WCYY patio show in Portland Maine Tanya: Do you have any pre-show rituals? Billy: Hmmm, well usually try and warm up if I can get away with it, and I just try and give myself a second before I play just to focus Tanya: What’s the first thing that goes through your mind when walking on stage? Billy: I don't know "I hope I don't fuck up" haha. Tanya: If you had the chance to tour with any band who would you want it to be? Billy: Eisley I'd have to say. I feel like a lot of my new stuff is similar to their style and would make a nice show Tanya: Where do you see yourself in 5...10 years? Billy: probably taking a shower for the first time just kidding Tanya: yeah you know how us Mainers do... Billy: haha I know huh? Hopefully touring and able to create the music that is waiting to come out of me. Tanya: What is the best present a fan could give you? Billy: Hmmm wow I love a genuine compliment I take things people say really close to heart and tend to drive myself crazy, so hearing nice things from people really is priceless Tanya: Sun or Rain? Billy: SUN!!!! Get me out of Seattle ! Tanya: Black and white or colored Pictures? Billy: Black and white Tanya: Blondes or Brunettes? Billy: Brunettes Tanya: Party like a rock star or party like its 1999? Billy: Rock Star Tanya: Holding hands or kissing? Billy: Kissing Tanya: Late nights or early mornings? Billy: Late nights Tanya: Fun house or Haunted House? Billy: haha fun house, I’ve never been in a haunted house! Tanya: Being in a relationship or Being single?
