Alex Reekie![]() MYSPACE Tanya: Tell me a little about yourself and how you got started with music. Alex Reekie: Well, if I go as far back as the first time I picked up a guitar.. that would be when I was 14. My mate Dan was given a rather crappy little acoustic and learnt the James Bond theme on it. So I fought back buy buying myself an old Squire Stratocaster and writing my own stuff. I taught myself and never really played other artist's music.. just learnt by writing and improving. It took a long time but turned out not so bad a method! Tanya: How long does it usually take you to write a song? AR: A day for the main chunk of it, structure, melody, but much longer for the lyrics. I usually end up going back and changing things even after I've recorded.. I'm just never happy with them. Tanya: What is the first cd you ever bought? AR:That would be a single called "Sandstorm" by Darude. A bit rubbish me thinks. Tanya: What was the best concert you have ever been to? AR:Foo Fighters - Hyde PArk, June 2006. It was possibly one of the best nights of my life! Except there was a couple of girls behind me all night feeling up my fat bum. Tanya: What is your favorite thing about playing live? AR:The attention, for sure. It's a great feeling having the crowd really listening to something I've worked so hard on. It makes it all worth while feeling appreciated. Tanya: Have you had any embarrasing moments on stage? AR:My very first "gig", Dan and I (playing as a duo, back then) were a tad nervous, so we gave ourselves a lil' dutch courage with a big bottle of blue stuff.. The result was us performing very drunkenly (couldn't handle it back then) and telling a very bad joke. I think it was, "Did you hear about the bloke that worked at the potato factory? He got the sack!" Tanya: Tell me something about you that no one else knows. AR:This is VERY difficult to answer.. I'm pretty open. I've never washed the robe I'm wearing right now. That'll have to do, sorry. Tanya: What is your dream venue to play in? AR: Something small, cosy and recorded to DVD. Like an MTV Unplugged sort of thing. Tanya: If you could tour the country with any artist/band who would it be ? AR: Foo Fighters. I've got so much respect for those guys and I'm a die hard fan. Tanya: Do you have any hidden talents? AR: Hidden? Well, I can swallow with my mouth open. I can pick up things with my bumcheeks, it impresses those who see it, really. Tanya: If you were a cartoon character who would you be? AR: Johnny Bravo. Or Captain Hero from Drawn Together. No, definatly Captain Hero. He's the man. Tanya: What is one song another artist wrote that you wish you had? AR: Goo Goo Dolls - Iris. That song is perfect in my eyes. Who was that person that covered it? It shouldn't have been done! Tanya:How doyou remember your fans; which ones stand out in your head? AR: When I'm told really sweet things, like how my music has affected them in some way. Or if they're really hot! ..Got to be honest! Tanya: Do you have any words to live by? AR:"What would Clark Kent do?" Tanya: When everthing is all said and done what do you want to be remembered for? AR:Trying to make things as fun as possible, wherever and whenever possible!
