Alesana

Myspace

Brittany: How long has Alesana been together and when did you all join?
Steven: Shawn and Pat met in Baltimore, but moved to Raleigh looking to join up with some guys to form a band. Within two weeks of moving they met Dennis, at the restaurant where Shawn worked, to be a vocalist, Daniel, the original drummer, at a party and later, me (Steven) who was invited to a practice at their storage space on halloween of 2004. Adam was in a local band playing guitar in Raleigh whom Alesana played with frequently. Jeremy, the final member, joined the band in Jan.2006. Jeremy and I used to be in bands together when we were young. We called Jeremy when we needed a drummer and he quickly joined the band.

Brittany: I see you guys are touring with some great bands right now like Haste The Day and From Autumn To Ashes. Do you guys get to choose who tours with you or does the label?
Steven: Yeah these bands are awesome....really great tour to be on. Ultimately choosing tours is a joint decision between the band and the label. We decide what bands and tours are right for us. If we got offered to go out with Gwar I'd be all about it, but I don't know how much our fans would enjoy being covered in blood every show.

Brittany: Not only do you have that tour but you guys are playing quite a few Warped tour dates too?
Steven: Of course Warped Tour is the king tour to be on and its absolutely perfect for us. No better tour to be on to help a band to expand their fanbase and increase exposure while having fun. We're totally psyched about being a part of it this year.

Brittany: Speaking of touring, what are some things you guys have to have with you at all times when on the road?
Steven: Hahaha. I get picked on for it, but my sidekick is key. More generally though, our cellphones, Ipods, socks, and Emergen c.

Brittany: What's are some favorite songs to perform live?
Steven: We have fun doing em all, but best crowd response we get is usually for "Ambrosia," which we just shot our first video for, "Tilting the Hourglass" and "Congratulations, I Hate You."

Brittany: Do you have any memorable fan experiences?
Steven: MEXICO! The kids in mexico are insane.....absolutely nuts! Both of our mexican tours are unforgettable, the kids will do whatever it takes to meet you and really push the band to put on a good show.

Brittany: What's the best advice you have been given about the music industry?
Steven: NEVER LOSE HEART!

Brittany: You guys just released your new cd On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, How do you think this cd is different from your EP?
Steven: There is sooo much growth. You can hear how our sound has totally matured. We also went for a theme on this album; having it based around stories of greek and roman mythology. Not to mention production quality.

Brittany: When everything is all said and done what do you guys want to be remembered for?
Steven: Doing something different in a very overpopulated scene and standing for it, while giving kids hope and pride in who they are and what they can do.

Brittany: What do you have to say to the fans/bands/or readers that are checking out your interview and music?
Steven: The Sky's The LIMIT! Have heart and never lose hope. If your not happy doing what your doing, put yourslf in a place where you can be.
