Airdate
MYSPACE | Airdate Merch

Amber: Introduce yourself, and tell us about Airdate.
Doug: What's up?? I’m Doug, the Singer and Guitarist for the band Airdate. Airdate started back in high school where I met Steve Forys (drums). We both shared similar interests in music, and both had the dreams of playing in front of thousands of people one day. I was into a lot of the 80's pop and rock at the time (The Outfield, Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, The Cars, etc). Steve came from a country background so he always had a little bit of southern style to him, but we always loved what we came up with regardless. So we decided to keep writing some of our own tunes, and see what we could come up with. We ended up recording a few songs with Killingsworth Recording Co, in the summer of 2006. We worked off the 5 song demo for a while, rotating through band members until we found or perfect matches. Dan McCabe hopped on board in the summer of 06, and Chris Loret (long time friend and former band mate) rounded us out not too long after. Here we are, with 3 new songs produced by Ava and Mia Koo that we recorded at NAda Recording, in New Windsor NY. We just continue to bust our asses playing every and anywhere we can, and continue to watch our fan base grow. It’s amazing!

Amber: How long ago did your CD come out?
Doug: Well our sampler came out a month ago.

Amber: Off of the sampler, what is your favorite song and why?
Doug: I think my favorite song would have to be Walking Alone. It’s a very personal song to me. I kind of put a twist on a situation I was in with a girlfriend of mine, who was about to go away to college. It’s no fun, let me tell you.

Amber: Do you have plans for a full length CD soon?
Doug: Yeah totally. We are writing nonstop right now for our debut record. We have about 20 songs so far, but we are aiming for more, so we can pick our very best for everyone!

Amber: Amazing, have you started picking a title for the CD yet?
Doug: We've been throwing around ideas here and there, but nothing has stuck yet. The music we like to play is very positive and uplifting, so we are thinking of some stuff along those lines. Any ideas? Haha. We also want to see how the record is going to unfold song wise, this way we have more to work with.

Amber: You know how there’s some CDs that have just okay songs or you really don’t like them that much; your songs are not like that.
Doug: That’s what we try to do, we want to make every song we put out like that way you never get bored of us!

Amber: I see you do live chats with your fans all the time on aim, what’s that like?
Doug: It’s awesome; we usually do it once a week. It’s just amazing to actually be able to be in conversation with our fans, and see what they are up to. In the beginning, we could respond to a lot of emails but now it’s just out of hand. We needed to find a way to reach out to them and we chose that. We love our fans more than anything, and want them to feel as much a part of this as we do.
Amber: That's amazing, not many bands are like that.
Doug: I never get that, when bands are assholes to fans. It’s like come on and grow up man. You’re a Rockstar, but your taking it for granted. These people buy your albums, have your poster on the wall and you can’t even take the time out to say "hey what's up?" That’s one thing we won’t ever do, we love each and every one of you guys out there. Be prepared to hang!

Amber: Let's say you get as famous as like top chart bands, would you still try to have those chats?
Doug: If we are able to have time to do it, you better believe it. It may not be as long of a time as now but we will always find someway to stay in touch. The internet is a beautiful thing.

Amber: Is there anything you would change about the music business?
Doug: I don’t think I would change anything about the industry right now. I think there's a lot of amazing artists with unreal talent out there. The only thing I see different, is trying to mix up the pot a bit. There are a lot of bands who look the same, sound the same, and carry themselves in the same way. Let’s get some fresh air in there please!!

Amber: Is there a song you've heard on the radio and was like, Man I wish I wrote that song?
Doug: Oh, yeah definitely. The one that stands out to me is Semi- Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. I’m a huge fan by the way haha. I remember being in my mom's minivan on the way home from school one day and I heard that song for the first time. I thought it was genius and now that I’m older and understand music more, I’m like WOW that IS genius! So I definitely wish I wrote that.

Amber: After everything is all said and done, what do you want the band to be remembered for?
Doug: I just want to be looked at as the band that kept pop and rock music fresh. We are the biggest goofballs you’ll ever meet, so we want that to reflect in our live show. When it’s all said and done I would just like people to hear the word Airdate and go "damn remember that band?? They always put out great albums, and always kept topping themselves" “They had some rad tunes."

Amber: Any touring plans?
Doug: Yes!!

Amber: Can we expect details soon?
Doug: Of course, it’s in the works now. We should have the information out by the end of summer/fall but keep checking!

Amber: Do you have any last words for the viewers and your fans?
Doug: I just want to say THANK YOU for taking the time to check us out, support us, and spread the word. You all never cease to amaze me. We have the best fans, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!! We love you guys, "peace and chicken grease".
