451
MYSPACE

1. First of all thanks for taking the time to do this interview! Why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a little about 451 ( when did you form, how did you all meet, is their a cool story behind the bands name? etc..)
Drew - I guess I'll be one of the guys writing. I'm Drew Robinson, I sing and play a little guitar. I don't know what counts as a cool story. We met in high school. Yanni and I have been playing together since freshman year but Four Fifty One wasn't really a solid thing until the winter of junior year which would be around January 2005, I guess. The idea for the name came from the book, Fahrenheit 451. It was one of those situations where you say, "Alright, we'll call ourselves this until we think of something better," and it just ended up sticking.
Yanni - My name is Yanni and I play the drums. I will be the other person writing. We're an indie rock band from Baltimore, Maryland. We have an ep that was put out last fall by a music collective based in Venice, California called Mophonics. We've been spending a lot of time recently working on material for the next album as well as touring pretty regularly.

2. At what point in your life did you know you wanted to be in a band?
Drew - It's kind of tough to pin point one moment, but being in a band and playing music was something I wanted to do way before I could hold an instrument or come up with a tune. It was something that appealed to me for a long time and as I've gotten older, making music has become more and more important to me.
Yanni - For me it was right after we played our first show at the Recher Theatre freshman year. I got off the stage and I thought to myself "Wow I would really like to do this more often."

3. What is your favorite thing about touring.. least favorite?
Drew - There are a lot of really great things about touring. Just the idea of taking your music with you and showing it to new people who might have never heard it, and then getting their feedback and occasionally really connecting with somebody over it is pretty huge to me.
Yanni - I agree with Drew. Its hard to explain the feeling you get before playing in front of people that have never heard you. We are so used to playing in front of familiar faces with a few new ones here and there, but its really different playing out of state. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when it comes to booking agents, venue staff, and bands interacting. The worst is when you have a date you're set on playing and you get to the venue just to find out that the show fell through because one of the main locals didn't show or too many touring bands were booked by accident. Stupid mistakes like that are pretty rough.

4. What is one band you haven't gotten the chance to tour with yet that you would love to tour with?
Drew - There are a ton of bands that I'm sure we'd have a lot of fun touring with. It's tough to point to just one. Doing anything with a band that I really look up to like the Cure or Pinkerton era Weezer would be pretty amazing but I'm not sure if that'll be happening any time soon.
Yanni - I think it would be amazing to tour with The Flaming Lips. They have a crazy show, that I don't think I would ever get bored watching.

5. How did the opportunity arise for you guys to play on veronica mars as the band " the unwashed"?
Drew - I guess to make the story short, one of the producers on the show heard our band and liked our stuff. It happened to work out that there was a scene where they needed a band and we were asked to be that band. It was a pretty interesting experience and something we never really took that seriously though it ended up being a good opportunity for new people to hear our music and see us perform.
Yanni - And we got to meet Kristen Bell.

6. Why didn't you guys play as four fifty one?
Drew - It just so happened that in the script, the band name ,"The Unwashed" was tied to the story. Though I still wore a Four Fifty One t-shirt on the show, we kind of liked the idea of being a real band performing under a fake name.

7. Where do you come up with the names of your songs? Some of them are pretty unique!
Drew- The names of the songs, like the subject matter, come from a lot of different places. I'd give you a more specific answer but I'd need to know what songs in particular you have in mind.

8. Whats one thing new listeners should know about four fifty one?
Drew- Although Four Fifty One is a baltimore band, we didn't grow up in west Baltimore and our lives aren't actually like an episode of "the Wire" though our drummer, Yanni is scheduled to be an extra in the show.
Yanni - Yes it's kind of funny, I am answering these questions right before I am going to the set.

9. Your tour is coming to an end, when's the next time you'll be hitting the road?
Drew- We've got small tours in September and October with a slightly longer tour in November. We're mainly concentrating on the east coast though we will be going to other areas as well.

10. What do you think seperates four fifty one from all of the other bands out there trying to make it in the music business today?
Drew- I'm not really sure how to answer that. I guess if you can listen to our music and feel something or somethings in it that sound unique then there's your answer, whatever it is. If not, that's okay too. It's a subjective thing. I don't feel like saying that everyone else is doing it wrong and we're doing it right and I don't really feel like putting anybody down either. I don't think I need to and I don't think it'll make our music sound any different.
Yanni - I think the fact that we require a troll on the stage to play the show makes us 200% different.

Any final words....
It's nice that you and the readers are taking the time to read what we have to say. We appreciate it. Hopefully this interview will cause a few people to listen to the music and maybe even pass it on to some friends. We'll cross our fingers. Thanks for having us.
