Band: Relient K Location: Memphis, TN Date: June 14 9pm Attendees: Jim Miller, Kristin Evans, Kelsey Renihan Relient K for the past few weeks has been playing at small venues, very short sets, which include the likes of Wal Mart. Which was very funny, but would be surely be fun. I drove 3 hours to Memphis, Tn. This city is full of so much culture. We spent the day walking around Beale Street, and touring much of downtown. We got to meet a golden retriever named 'Happy'. He wore a hate, and appeared to be strung out on heroin. The city has a musky smell, and from what I'm told contains a crematorium downtown. They tell tourists its a paper factory..... Relient K played at EP Delta Kitchen and Bar, a really fancy hangout, with style and a price to fit. We had great food, which came to around $45 for my own. After I got done eating, I went to the bathroom bathroom, walked up to the urinal right next to this guy who turned out to be Jonathan Schneck from Relient K. I walked back to our table saying I spent my time bumping elbow with the stars (almost literally) while in the bathroom. The the restaurant was pretty small, and there were maybe 60 people total there. The stage was flat on the ground and everyone got within 4 or 5 feet of the band while they played. They played some of their classics, and a Beach Boy cover, and the theme song of "Growing Pains", in which I belted out every note. The all acoustic set lasted about 30 minutes, and was so extremely short it left most everyone yelling for an encore. Matthew Thiessen just looked up and said, 'thats all we know'. Afterward they just hung around talking to people. They were extremely laid back and cool with all the fans. They apologized to me for playing a short set after they heard how long we drove, which I didn't mind, I still think there awesome. Leaving the restaurant, Beale Street is insane. I was offered drugs at some point by a guy who seemed nice, but of course, I declined. This guy took our picture, hit on the girls I was with, and somehow convinced me within 30 seconds to pay him five dollars, twice, and then he convinced me to tip him. He sure saw us coming.
