Band: Raleigh Hometown: South Shore, MA Myspace On tour this winter (w/ A Heartwell Ending, There for Tomorrow and the Dropout Year) Reviewed by Adam Cowsert (10.08.07) Hailing from South Shore, Massachusetts, Raleigh, a youthful pop punk group (the majority of the band members have yet to reach the age of 21) shows plenty of promise and potential in a local scene generally dominated by the infamous Boston punk and hardcore genres. Established in early 2006, Raleigh offers a unique combination of pop punk energy fused with a post-hardcore influence that fans of Senses Fail, Four Year Strong, and Halifax can appreciate. Raleigh’s Myspace profile currently offers visitors the opportunity to listen to three of their songs. The first, an unmastered clip of “Videxia,” should not be dismissed as just another rough cut from your average Myspace band; the track has the potential to be a very catchy single. “Videxia” also proves to be a strong candidate for fan favorite. With a powerful scream just ten seconds in, Raleigh’s intensity is evident quite early on. The next track, “An Unwritten Tale of Triage,” is a guitar-driven number that shows the pop punk side of Raleigh. The final song, “Its Held in Silence” (available for download), is featured on East Coast VS the World, a compilation from Quickstar Productions based in Baltimore, MD. “…Silence” is yet another appealing cut that presents an example of the band’s intensity and guarantees a very active and entertaining live presence. I highly recommend a visit to Raleigh’s Myspace page and look forward to hearing future efforts from the group. |
