Band: Foo Fighters Title: Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace Due out September 25, 2007 Reviewed by Adam Cowsert (9.20.07) Well, I managed to get my hands on the Foo Fighter’s sixth studio release about a week prior to its release and I must say those who don’t have it yet, it will be well worth the wait. Just last month, The Pretender, the first single off the new album was released and has become quite popular across the US. Unfortunately, The Pretender does not represent the rest of the CD as a whole. In fact, majority of the second half of the album is completely different than the single and is driven by acoustic guitar and has a strong hint of folk influence which is a good thing. The very first track is the current single, The Pretender. The second track, Let it Die may just be my favorite off the album. Much like many other Foo Fighers favorites, Let it Die features Dave Grohl’s voice with a dominating presence and clearly shows raw emotion, something rarely found in most modern music. Moving on, another song to be a sure fan favorite, Cheer up Boys, Your Makeup is Running is another one of the more typical Foo songs. Echoes…also features an instrumental tribute to the miners who were trapped recently…the song sounds like nothing the Foos have ever written but its still enjoyable nonetheless. This past summer, the band re-released their second studio album, The Colour and the Shape, originally released in 1997 (reached double platinum status) as a tenth anniversary re-issue. Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace marks the first time since the 1997 release the band has worked with producer Gil Norton, who has yet again drawn the full potential out of the band to create a masterpiece of an album. 4 out of 5 stars.
